Automotive quality is defined by what happens after the part leaves your plant. A defect that reaches the vehicle is a warranty claim at best and a recall at worst, and the cost lands far from the station that let it through.
The inspection problems are correspondingly awkward: painted and polished panels that reflect, castings with complex geometry, seals and fasteners that must be present and correctly seated, and assemblies that run in many variants down one line.
