Surface defect detection
Scratches, dents, pinholes, cracks, porosity, inclusions.
Surface defects are the classic case where a defect is obvious to an experienced operator and invisible to a rule. A scratch is not a fixed shape, a dent is not a fixed size, and porosity does not appear in the same place twice. What makes a surface defect a defect is how it deviates from the surface around it.
Threshold-based systems struggle here because they need the deviation described in advance. Every new lighting condition, material batch or surface finish moves the threshold, and the system is retuned until it either passes bad parts or rejects good ones.
FOCUS™ AI is trained on what an acceptable surface looks like across the full range of normal variation, so it can flag deviations it has not been shown before. Every inspection is logged with image evidence, which means a borderline call can be reviewed rather than argued about.
